How long should you register your domain for?

Believe it or not, Google is finally giving "extra credit" for websites that have a domain name registered for more than one year.  Thinking behind this: Spammers buy domains for one year knowing they will burn it by sending millions of emails through it. Likely only a legitimate website owner would spend the extra money for a multi-year registration.
